Peggy J. Reeves

Mrs. Peggy Joerine Reeves, 80, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away on October 4, 2024. Born on December 16, 1943, Peggy grew up in Basile, Louisiana, before moving to Lake Charles, where she became a nurse at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. It was in Lake Charles that Peggy met the love of her life, Mervin Lee Reeves. They were married for 59 wonderful years. After starting their family, Peggy made the decision to step away from her nursing career to focus on raising her children. 

Peggy’s life was filled with purpose and delight, from tending to her garden and the birds that visited her on the front porch, to the rhythms of Cajun French music and the love of her ever-growing family. Sharing laughter and games like pokeno and bingo with friends added depth and warmth to her life. She also enjoyed watching bull riding and figure skating. Although her mood could be dicey at times, daily grocery store runs gave her so much joy!

Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Mervin Lee Reeves, her daughter, Jacqueline Cavenah (Robert). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Ashleigh McDonald (Jonathon), Tallen Cavenah (Jessica), Courtney Wade (Jonathan), Jaci Williams (Destin), Carlee Parker (Louis), Devyn Goudeau (Nick), and Cameron Cavenah; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Trace Comeaux, and twelve other great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie M. and Alexie M. Manuel (Gabbie), her three siblings, her daughter Rhonda Lynn Reeves, two infant sons, one infant grandson, Chase Cavenah, and other dear family members who have gone before her.

A Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Visitation will be open to the public on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a reading of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Creel Memorial Gardens.

Peggy’s legacy of love, dedication to her family, and kind spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
