Percy J. Fontenot of Lake Charles, LA. passed away at 5:01am Wednesday, 28 August 2013 at a local hospital.
Mr. Fontenot was born on 4 June 1919 in Soileau, LA. to Dius and Octavia Fontenot. He was raised and lived in Oberlin LA. until 1953 when he moved to Lake Charles and lived until his passing.
In December 1941 he met and married his first wife Miss Euna Mae Johnson. He is survived by their daughters: Priscilla Roy (Hubert), Glenda Verret (Leroy) and Theresa Bourgeois (Benny) all of Lake Charles. Mr. Fontenot is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren all from his union with Euna Mae Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his son Daniel J. Fontenot, and his sisters Beulah Lafleur and Clara Lafleur.
After the passing of his first wife, he met and has been married to his present wife, Anna Lou Marcantel Fontenot, for the past 28 years. From this union he is survived by his stepchildren, Ray Marcantel (Gaylon), Joey Marcantel (Cathy), Vera Serice, Kevin Marcantel (Martha); 24 step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.
Percy served in the Army in Europe from 1941 - 1945 during WWII. He went through North Africa and participated in the invasions of Sicily, Italy and D-Day. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and served under General George C. Patton. Percy always loved and honored the American flag and he felt he had helped support the virtues it represents.
After his discharge from the Army, he worked as a painter for 10 years and later for Cit-Con Corp. for over 30 years. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling and camping around the country, being in the outdoors and working in the yard. Percy was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church for 60 years where he was an usher for the past 28 years. He enjoyed his participation in many organizations: VFW, American Legion, CFMA, DAV, Bois Ami, VICS Club, The Council on Aging, Bayou SAM and the Good SAM Club.
Throughout all his life, he loved dancing to Cajun music and he was known as The Dancer'. He loved life, his family and always believed in the virtues of Respect and Peace. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
His funeral service will be at 10am on Saturday, 31 August 2013 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 1pm to 9pm with a rosary at 6pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday from 8am to 9:30am.
