Perry Wylie Roan, 77, died on Monday, July 9, 2012, at his residence, with his loving family at his side after courageously battling a lengthy illness.
Born in Selma, Louisiana to Lester and Josephine Clinton Roan, Wylie grew up in Oakdale, Louisiana graduating from Oakdale High School. Wylie served his country in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during his enlistment. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Wylie attended Louisiana Tech graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. He moved to Galveston, Texas to work for IBM where he met the love of his life, Linda. They married in 1962 and moved to Lake Charles in 1966. He worked as a public accountant with Gus Schram, CPA, retiring in 1995. Wylie was a faithful member of St. Michaels and All Angels Church, having served as treasurer and as a member of the choir, the Vestry, and the Mens breakfast crew.
Wylie's love for fishing was only exceeded by the love he held for his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed spending most of his time at his camp in Deatonville fishing on "his lake", as he liked to refer to it. If not fishing, Wylie would attend all of his grandsons' events, and there were many, even during his illness. Wylie was known by most women, and, a few men, as the best hugger in town. His hugs will be sorely missed. He was truly an uplifting sprit, and compassionate man.
Mr. Roan is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Linda Anderson Roan; his son, Eric Wylie Roan and daughter-in-law, Charlotte; his two grandsons, Quinton Wylie Roan and Collin James Roan, all of Lake Charles; one sister, Bettye Long of Ruston; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at St. Michaels and All Angels Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Peter Cook will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 AM until service time.
Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Roan may be made to St. Michaels and All Angels Church, 123 West Sale Road, Lake Charles, LA 70605.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given to Wylie from Dr. Luke Williams, the staff of Amedisys Hospice, Mrs. Sherry Haley, and Ms. Brenda Fontenot. The family is also grateful to his many friends who supported him during his illness.
