Peter "Pete" Dartez, 87, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 26, 2024 with his family at his side.
Pete was a native of Wright, Louisiana and a longtime resident of the Lake area. He was a professional heavy equipment operator through the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers, Local 406. His talent and skill remains second to none, and he traveled to many places around the country to operate the heavy equipment for construction of roads and dirt work of all kinds. He was the proud recipient of the 50 and 60 year service pins in his industry. In his spare time, Pete was passionate about raising and racing horses. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. Pete proudly and honorably served our nation in the Army National Guard and was of the Christian Faith.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 35 years, Barbara Fontenot Dartez, Lake Charles; daughter, Tessie Dartez Dupuis (Randy), Lake Charles, son, Lance Dartez (Ann Belanger); grandchildren, Brittney (Brant) Legendre, Amy Jo (Bradley) Materne and Jason Belanger, Meagan Primeaux (Jordan) and Molly Vezinot; great grandchildren, Harper, Easton, and Maddox Legendre and Emerson Materne, and Magnolia and Isabel Primeaux; sisters, Dorothy (Griffin) Jackson and Beverly Sonnier as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.
Preceding Pete in death are his parents, Eunice and Mary Frieu Dartez and grandson, Ryan Vezinot.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday November 30, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, concluding with a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Rev. Michael Shamblin will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.
