Phayo John Grindol

July 31, 1926 — August 12, 2021

Phayo John “Bud” Grindol, 95, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021, when he was reunited in heaven once more with his beloved wife of over 74 years, Billie Jackson Grindol.

Bud was born on July 31, 1926, in Battle Creek, Michigan as 1 of 9 children.  He often loved to recount stories of his childhood growing up through the Great Depression and of days gone by.  He was always especially proud to show off his Championship trophy he had won shooting marbles at Kellogg Junior High in 1941.  After graduating from high school, Bud proudly served as a sailor in the U.S. Navy during WWII and truly became one of the “Greatest Generation” having defended our country through some of the darkest days.

Following his military service, he met and married the love of his life, Billie Jackson, on August 10, 1946.  Bud and Billie settled in Lake Charles where they raised their 4 children.  They lived their entire married lives in the area of Burton Lane having lived there for over 70 years!  Bud was the respected and well-known, small business owner of Central Stamp and Supply, and through his work he made many friends and connections over the years throughout the Lake Area.  Upon his retirement he continued his active life>th birthday, Bud made the most important decision of his life; he decided to put his faith in Jesus!!  And because of Bud’s faith in Jesus, he will have everlasting life.  What about YOU?  Do you believe in Jesus as Savior?

Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.  Those left to honor and cherish his memory are:  son, Phillip (Wanda) Grindol of Sulphur, daughter, Debra Grindol Porche of Lake Charles, son, Stephen (Shevawn) Grindol of Lake Charles; two brothers, Paul D. Grindol and Louis Grindol; eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie Jackson Grindol; his parents, John and Iva Grindol; his son, John Grindol; his siblings, Olive Davis, Jan Kohler, Hazel Dowler, Helen Cross, Florence Grindol, and Fred Grindol.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Reverend Phil Carpenter will officiate.  Interment services will be at Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service in the church.
