Philip Martin Farmer

October 12, 1949 — August 29, 2014

Philip Martin Farmer, 64 of Lake Charles passed away peacefully Friday, August 29, 2014 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Farmer was born on October 12, 1949 in Lake Charles and had lived his entire life in the Lake Charles area. He was a 1968 graduate of Lake Charles High School where he lettered in football and track. After graduating from high school, he attended USL and LSU before honorably serving our country in the United States Army. Mr. Farmer worked in the offshore oilfield industry for his entire career, most recently for Halliburton/Baroid as a mud engineer. Philip enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. A very strong sports fan, he enjoyed anything to do with LSU and the Saints football. He also was a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed target shooting. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 32 years, Martha Smith Farmer; two daughters, Kara Lynn Farmer-Primeaux and husband Troy of Lafayette, LA and Andrea Leigh Farmer of Austin, TX; a sister, Karen Farmer Darcy and husband Dale of Fort Worth, TX; and a brother, William Gilbert Farmer and wife Nancy of Katy, TX. Visitation will be on Sunday August 31, 2014 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Bruce officiating. The Family wishes to thank Dr. Mohammad Kahn and Dr. Maze and their staffs, the ATC of Christus St. Patrick hospital, Christus Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Leah and Dawn, for the kind, compassionate care shown to Philip and his family during his illness. The family requests that in lieu of floral donations, memorials be made to Special Olympics of Louisiana, 100 East Morris St., Hammond, LA 70403. "Wildcats Forever"
