Phillip M. Latham, 80, died on Friday, August 21, 2015 in his home, with his loving family at his side. Born in Welsh, Louisiana, Mr. Latham lived most of his life in Lake Charles, graduating from LaGrange High School in 1953 and McNeese State University in 1965. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army in the early days of the surface to air missile batteries. Mr. Latham retired as a Purchasing Manager in 1998, after having worked in the petrochemical industry for more than thirty years. He was involved in the procurement of materials for the construction of original Millenium Park. A Little League baseball coach for many years in South Lake Charles, Mr. Latham had a positive influence on many of the young athletes that were on his teams. He was a member of Covenant Grace Church. He is survived by his faithful wife of nearly 54 years, June Beavers Latham; three children, Lisa Tygrett and Michael Latham, both of Lake Charles, and John Latham of DeQuincy; one sister, Patricia Baxley of New Orleans, and five grandchildren, Wendy Tygrett of Lake Charles, and Shepard, Hannah, Ellison and Abigail Latham, all of Wortham, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Carr Latham. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Joel Faulk will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
