Phillip Ray Richard

Phillip Ray Richard, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. He was born on May 5, 1939, in Eunice, Louisiana, to Curtis and Clemmie Arnold Richard.

Ray went by the nickname “Brother” while his nieces and nephews called him “Uncle Bubba”.  He got that name because he had a twin sister, and they went by Brother and Sister.

He was a graduate of Marion High School, and McNeese University.  He worked as a bookkeeper during his lifetime having lived in Houston, TX., New Orleans, Pass Christian, MS. and Lake Charles.

His love of gardening showed in his beautiful yards.  He could never get enough plants and garden statues. Brother was best known for this sense of humor and was always telling jokes.  He never met a stranger and could out talk most of those he met and knew.  He was always looking forward to the next birthday party or family gathering.  In his younger days he enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite places was Lake Tahoe.  He was a huge LSU Tiger fan and hardly missed watching a game.

Those left to cherish his memory are…his three sisters Ann Clift, Jackie Smith and Judy Leger, sisters-in-laws Florine who was married to Pistol, Dona who married to Dickie and brother-in-laws Jack Clift and Jim Barber. Although he never had any children of his own, he had numerous nieces, nephews, grands and greats who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Clemmie (Arnold) Richard, his siblings, Clemmie Lee, William (Willie), Donald (Pistol), Ronald (Casey), Faye (Sister), and Dickie. Lastly, his beloved Annie, his last dog who recently just passed away.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, located at 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA. Dr. Jack Clift will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 1:00 PM.
