Phoebe Broussard Dever

November 24, 1925 — May 18, 2012

Phoebe Ruth Broussard Dever, 87, entered eternal rest in her South Lake Charles residence, Friday, May 18, 2012 in the care of her family and Southern Care Hospice.


Mrs. Dever was born November 24, 1925 to Wallace and Lilly Broussard in Iota, LA. Her family moved to Port Neches, TX, where she attended Port Neches High School and Chenier Business College. After college, Mrs. Dever worked for the phone company before moving to Lake Charles, where she met and married James (Jay) L. Dever. She worked many years for CITGO Petroleum retiring in 1985. Following her retirement, she spent much of her time working at the Boarding House with her dear friends, Sis White and Gloria Hebert.


Mrs. Dever was a long time member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish and spent many years volunteering her time and talents cooking for the church and school carnivals. During her later years, she attended St. Martin de Porres and Christ the King Catholic Churches.


Mrs. Dever was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Dever; a son, Danny Dever; her parents, Wallace and Lilly Broussard and a brother, Edward Dewey Broussard.


She leaves to cherish her memory, son, David Dever; grandchildren, James (Jimbo) Dever, Meagan Lee Dever; great-grandchildren, Blace Dever, Alaya Bellard, Ava Lee Shepherd and Emma Lynn Shepherd; sisters, Rose Marie Connaly and husband Dick and Carmen Musslewhite. She also leaves numerous family members, friends and her beloved extended family, the White family.


A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, May 21, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
