R. Wayne Vincent

August 6, 1930 — October 5, 2010

Raymond Wayne Vincent, 80, died peacefully on October 5, 2010 in a local hospital. He was born August 6, 1930 to Nore' E. and Ora Moss Vincent. He was a descendant of Pierre Vincent, founding father of Hackberry, and also John Jacob Ryan, a founding father of Lake Charles.

Wayne earned degrees from Lake Charles High School and from Tulane University in both Business and Law. He also was a graduate of Naval Officer's School.

He was the distributor of Cities Service and Citgo petroleum products for over 50 years, thru Vincent Oil Corporation and served for many years on the Board of Directors of Lakeside National Bank, the Board of Louisiana Oil Marketers, and several other trade and civic organizations. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

Wayne was proud to be from a deep rooted family of military service to the country. His grandfather fought and was wounded in the Civil War, his father was wounded in World War I, his brother and brother in law were wounded in World War II, and he served during the Korean War as a legal and bridge officer on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge.

During his retirement, Wayne loved spending time on his computer, particularly on email. In fact, he enjoyed every email he ever received and never read one that he didn't think was worth forwarding. He also loved relating his latest joke or science trivia to whomever's path he crossed. His other love in later years was vegetable gardening, and many enjoyed his bountiful harvest of home-grown tomatoes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Thornton (Kitty) Vincent, his brother, Rodney Moss Vincent, and his sister, Norrine Vincent Winter.

Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Vincent Stulb and Kathy Vincent Hanudel and her husband Mark; his son, Burton Rodney Vincent, and his wife Angie; six grandchildren, of whom he was enormously proud: Michael and Grace Stulb, Katie and Matthew Hanudel, and Brooke and Tyler Vincent. Wayne was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be truly and deeply missed by all who loved him. He cherished his family and many lifelong friends.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Wayne, and requests that memorials be made to Episcopal Day School or Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 715 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601, or to any charity of their choosing.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 8 in Johnson Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 Saturday morning in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Jack Meyer will officiate.
