Randal M. Owen

September 8, 1939 — June 25, 2021

Randal Morris Owen passed away June 25, 2021 at home in Lake Charles, LA at the age of 81.

He was born on September 8, 1939 in Childress, TX to Foy C. and Pearl Storey Owen.  He grew up in Childress, TX, and graduated from Childress High School.  He met the love of his life, Patti Foster at a fair in Quannah, TX.  It was love at first sight! They married on June 14, 1958.  Shortly after their marriage, Randal enlisted in the Army, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War.

Randal was always in sales, starting with Fuller Brush, door to door sales, Then White’s Automotive Store which led him into management and the family moved many times to open new stores. They eventually settled in Sulphur, LA in 1978. He then embarked on a new journey, his passion, Real Estate!  He started with the Ward Agency, transferred to Abelman, then in 1984 one of his dreams came true.  He opened his own real estate company, Owen & Associates. He truly enjoyed helping people.  He retired in 2016 after 32 years.

Randal will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a prankster who had a heart of gold.  He had a great sense of humor and was so much fun to be around.  He always put his family first, and never missed an event, whether it was a debate tournament, ballet recital, baseball/softball game, volleyball, basketball, soccer game or any opportunity to be together with his family and friends.  He enjoyed Friday night fights, football games and sleepovers with his grandsons.  He taught many unforgettable lessons to all his grandchildren by his love and devotion to their “Nanaw,” and especially his work ethic.  He led by example, working together on his rent houses and many other projects.  He was known for his generosity and always willing to help others.  He never left or hung up the phone without saying, “I love you!”

Those left to cherish his memory are, his daughters, Vicky Hood, and Suzanne Fong (Terry), both of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Amy Hood of Fayetteville, NC, Jeremy Hood (Heather) of Buford, GA, Amanda Keller (Justin) of Lake Charles, Joshua Hood (Brittany) of Ragley, LA, Jacob Hood (Jamie) of Westlake, LA, and Stephany Fong of Lake Charles; and great grandchildren, Elena Perez, Tyler, Izabella, Immy, Andrew, and Kara Hood, Dani Lynn Havens, Rowen and William Keller.

His Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at University Baptist Church.  Rev. Steve James will officiate.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, July 2, and will resume at 10:00 AM on Saturday until the time of the service.
