Raymond Lewis Farrar, 81, of Sulphur, died peacefully Friday, October 26, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family following a courageous four year battle with cancer.
He was born in Bossier City to George and Mary Kelly Farrar and was a 1948 graduate of Sulphur High School. Following his honorable service in the United States Marines during the Korean Crisis, he attended McNeese State, receiving a degree in accounting. Having worked for Citcon and Arthur Hollins, he retired as the Comptroller and General Manager of Delta Downs.
Raymond enjoyed his grandchildren, participating in and watching their activities and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and watching football. He loved to shake a leg with his wife as members of Krewe de la Famille and Bon Temps Dance Club.
Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Curtis. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Jacquelyn Jackie Brown Farrar, Sulphur; daughters, Anne Farrar, Sulphur; Kathleen Farrar Nichols and husband Terry, Merryville; Maureen Farrar Armentor and husband Jeffrey, Lake Charles; son, Will Farrar and wife Julianna, Denham Springs; grandchildren, Michael Farrar, Bryan and Craig Nichols, Jana Armentor Pearson and husband Lance, Erin, Kelly and Grant Armentor, and Steven and Ariana Farrar.
Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, October 28, 2012 and continue Monday from 10:00 AM until a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Consolota Cemetery. Deacon Bud Wagner will officiate.
