Raymond Scott Gammage

April 7, 1955 — December 1, 2010

Raymond Scott Gammage, age 55, of Westlake, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2010, after a very long battle with a rare genetic brain disease. Scott was surrounded by his loving family.


Born April 7, 1955, to Pete and Wanda Gammage, Scott worked as an offshore tool pusher for many years and the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in Alaska before becoming an operator for Louisiana Pigment. He was also a volunteer fireman for Westlake and an EMT. Known to his family and friends as the "life of the party", Scott loved to Karaoke, water ski, and had a black belt in Karate. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters' recreational softball and basketball teams as well as being the #1 fan for Westlake Rams.


Preceding him in death was his mother, Wanda Brubaker Gammage, his grandparents, Lillie Gammage Waites and Gilbert Brubaker, and his father-in-law, Silton Fuselier, Sr. Scott will be missed by all who knew and loved him.


Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Cheryl "Deggie" Fuselier Gammage of Westlake; two daughters, Brandi Reed Cox and husband, Michael Cox of Lake Charles and Kayla Crittenden and husband, David of Westlake; his mother-in-law, Yvonne Fuselier of Westlake, formerly of Oberlin; the joys of his life, his seven grandchildren, Bryce and Bruks Reed, Mia and Demi Canter, Gavin Cox, and Hallie and Christian Crittenden; his father, Pete Gammage and wife, Peggy formerly of Westlake, presently residing in Thibodeaux; one brother, Guy Gammage and wife, Patricia of Pacifica, CA; two sisters, Angie Wolfe and husband, Ronnie of Westlake and Debbie Gunnels of Palestine, TX; two step-brothers, Todd and Troy Bryan of Thibodeaux; two sister-in-laws, Charlotte Brown and husband, Kenny and Carol Toups Wolven and husband, Damon all of Westlake; and one brother-in-law, Silton Fuselier, Jr. and wife, Robin of Oberlin.


Scott's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Jaceson Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlake Memorial Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, December 4, from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary led by Father Keith Pellerin at 6 p.m. on Friday evening followed by a "time of remembrance" service led by Rev. Jaceson Johnson, with everyone invited to come up and share special memories of Scott with his family and friends.


Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kenny Brown, Silton Fuselier, Jr., Derek Gammage, Jeff Gunnels, Guy Gammage, Bob Hardy, Archie "Boog" Hebert, and Joey "Chicken Hawk" Bowers.


The family of Scott would like to express appreciation and gratitude to High Hope Care Center, St. Frances Nursing Home, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion they so graciously gave to Scott.
