Raymond Sylvester Melancon

Raymond Sylvester Melancon, 84, died Monday, November 28, 2011, at his son's home in Richmond, Texas, after a lengthy illness, with his loving family at his side.

Born in Lafayette, Louisiana to Alcee Joseph and Odile Marie Romero Melancon, Mr. Melancon served his country in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II serving in France, Germany, and Austria. He was a member of American Legion Post No. # 1. Raymond was an Agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 37 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Westlake Rotary Club and the Lake Charles Traffic Club. Raymond was an avid golfer and exercise fanatic. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of years Catherine Price Melancon of Richmond, TX, two sons R. Paul Melancon and wife Kathy Dugas Melancon of Richmond, TX, David K. Melancon and wife Stacy Brady Melancon of Lafayette, LA, two sisters; Barbara Artigue of Sulphur, LA, and Vivian Miller of Alexandria, LA, one brother Al Melancon of New Iberia, LA, and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Melancon is preceded in death by his wife Myrna Cessac Melancon.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father John Huckaby will officiate. Burial will be held in Consolata cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary to be held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
