Rena Eloise Fontenot Stein, 89, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 1:48 AM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Stein was born April 13, 1928 in Bell City, LA, where she attended school, before moving to Lake Charles and graduating from St. Charles Academy. When her children were younger, she was the head chaperone for the CYO, Catholic Youth Organization. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and an active member of the Catholic Daughters for almost fifty years. She served in numerous offices and twice as Regent for the Catholic Daughters and was proud that her court held four generations of her family. Mrs. Stein enjoyed embroidery, sewing, cooking and baking, but especially loved to can. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband following his retirement. She had a great passion for her family and was mother to many in her neighborhood; she will be missed dearly.
Mrs. Stein is survived by her children, Richard “Tim” Stein of Lake Charles, Mary Jane Guidroz and husband Ronnie of Iowa, LA, Jackie Landry and husband Keith of Moss Bluff, Sue Cavys and husband Sam of Ragley, Mike Stein and wife Sandy of Westlake, Mark Stein and wife Karen of Moss Bluff, Peggy LeBlanc and husband Ray of Sulphur, and Paul Stein of Lake Charles; sister-in-law, Elaine Stein Gary of Lake Charles; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren, with two more on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin L. Stein; parents, Albert Fontenot and Neely Andrus; sister, Theresa DeVillier; and daughter-in-law, Dinah Stein.
Her memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Private burial will be at Lacassine Cemetery at a later date. A gathering of family members and friends will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary at 5:00 PM.
