Rev. Edwin Hugh House, Jr.

Reverend Edwin Hugh House, Jr., 95, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in a local care facility.

Reverend House was born February 2, 1921 in Wisner, LA, where he was raised and lived a number of years in Winnsboro, LA. He moved to a number of different cities in north and south Louisiana, along with other locations as he ministered with various Methodist churches, before settling in the Lake Charles area in 1986. During his years in the Lake Charles area, he ministered in Cameron, Grand Chenier, Westlake and at University United Methodist Church. Rev. House received his Bachelor of Art degree in Arts and History from Northwestern State University and his Bachelor of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO. He also served as a volunteer fireman and worked at the milk house in Winnsboro for a number of years. He enjoyed tending to his flower gardens and loved to visit and outreach with people. Rev. House will always be remembered for being happy and non-judgmental and was always willing to help others. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by those who loved him.

Reverend House is survived by his son, Edwin H. “Ed” House, III and wife Belinda of Iowa, LA; grandsons, Edwin H. “Eddie” House, IV and wife Heather of Lake Charles and Hom LaAmart of Hope, AR; and great-grandsons, Edwin “Hugh” House, V and Conner Wilson House.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of forty-two years, Lillie Wilson House; second wife, Betty Elliott House; brother, William Wade House; sister, Ruth Dickerson.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Charles Langford and Katie Simpson will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday at Oakley Cemetery in Winnsboro, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
