Rev. Emmit Leonard Wren, 86, of Lake Charles died at 1:15 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2012 in his residence, surrounded by his family.
Rev. Wren was born on December 24, 1925 in St. Landry, LA to Oscar and Mable Wren. He was a graduate of Morrow High School and also of Louisiana College. He served in the U.S. Navy before working in the paper mills in Crossett, AR where he met his wife of 63 years, Clemmie Watkins. Rev. Wren then became a minister and practiced for more than 50 years. He was ordained at St Landry Baptist Church in 1957. He Pastored at Friendship Baptist Church in Pine Prairie, LA, Elizabeth Memorial in Branch, LA, First Baptist Church of Gray in Gray, LA, and Bethel Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. Following retirement, he worked as Interim Pastor of Topsy Baptist Church.
He enjoyed many things in life including gardening, fishing, cooking, and wood working. His greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus, ministering, and bringing people to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
Rev. Wren loved to laugh and tell a good story. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making life long friends. He shared his wisdom and life with all that knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Susan Smith of Deville, LA, and Becky Farque and husband Brantley of Iowa; two sons, Michael Wren and wife Millie of Houma and Paul Wren of Aurora, CO; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Elvin Lee Wren and wife Carol of Boise, LA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clemmie Wren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Randy Edwards, Rev. Ernest Walker, and Rev. Lloyd Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
