Reverend Vernon Chevallier, 84, of Sulphur, LA entered his Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. His final earthly residence was in Coppell, TX near his three children and their families. Reverend Chevallier was born August 9, 1929 in Walters, LA and was a graduate of Block High School in Jonesville, LA. He graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville, LA and attended New Orleans Theological Seminary. Rev. Chevallier was in the ministry for 65 years, serving as a Southern Baptist pastor or interim pastor in churches throughout Louisiana. He also served as director of missions for the Carey Baptist Association and the Louisiana Baptist Convention. Reverend Chevallier began his ministry in a small church in north Louisiana in a location that required that he travel by boat for church services. During his years as a minister, he baptized many individuals including all three of his children, one daughter-in-law, and three of his grandchildren. All three of his children were also privileged to have their father perform their marriage ceremonies. Prior to his move to Texas, he and his wife were actively involved at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Reverend Chevallier is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ida E. Daigle Chevallier, formerly of Sulphur, LA; sons, Edward Chevallier and his wife Donna of Roanoke Texas, and Jeremy Chevallier and his wife Milain of The Colony, Texas; daughter, Ginger Smith and her husband Tony, of Carrollton, TX; brother, Travis Chevallier of Livingston, MT; sisters, Doris Alexander of Shreveport, LA and Johnnie Stinson of Elizabethtown, KY; grandchildren, Lindsey Davis and her husband Chris, Devin Smith and Mazie and Maddie Chevallier; and one great-grandchild, Cooper Davis. Reverend Chevallier has been reunited in Heaven with his mother and father, Arzella and Len Chevallier, two brothers, J. D. Chevallier and Hershel Chevallier, and two brothers-in-law, John Alexander and Dale Stinson. His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Francis LaRocque and Reverend Andy Buckley will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and continue on Friday from 12:00 PM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that individuals make donations to a missions fund at the church of the donor's preference.
