Richard Allen Gieger, Sr.

April 7, 1933 — June 18, 2016

Richard Allen Gieger, Sr., 83, of LeBleu Settlement, LA died on Saturday, June 18, 2016 in his residence.

 

Mr. Gieger was born on April 7, 1933 in Marysville, OH and had lived in LeBleu Settlement, LA for the past 63 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gieger retired from Kroger after many years as a truck driver and belonged to the Teamsters Local.

 

He will be remembered as a loving and caring man as well as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Gieger had a love for dancing, working on lawnmowers, and traveling and was a devoted NASCAR fan.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 16 years, Ruby Giles Gieger of LeBleu Settlement, LA; ten children, Diane Shaw of Coffee City, TX, Julia Gieger of LeBleu Settlement, LA, Laurie Vidrine of LeBleu Settlement, LA, Richard “Dickie” Gieger, Jr. of Brandon, MS, Harry Gieger of Warner Robins, GA, Steve Gieger of Morgan City, LA, Brad Gieger of LeBleu Settlement, LA, Dolly Castille of Forest Hill, LA, Debbie Doran of Westlake, and Danny Dofflemyer of Forest Hill, LA; a sister, Susie Cunningham of Urbana, OH; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren. He also leaves behind lifelong special friends, Jackie and Jerry Duhon.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Harry Gieger; his first wife, Dorothy Ogea Gieger; three sons, Michael Gieger, and Donald “ChaChi” and Derick Dofflemyer; and a brother, Harry Reichelderfer.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wedesnday, June 22, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in LeBleu Cemetery in Chloe, LA. Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
