Richard Earl Cretini, 73, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 in a local hospital.
Richard Cretini was born on August 20, 1944 in Lake Charles, LA, to Wilbur and Martha Cretini. He graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1963 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. He worked as a Police officer in San Antonio, a florist in Lake Charles, and retired from the Port of Lake Charles after 40 years as a longshoreman. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, carpentry, and stained glass work. Richard never met a stranger and always wanted those around him to be happy. He will be remembered for his brutal honesty, his sense of humor, his individuality, but most of all for the kindness, devotion, and generosity to his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Susan Hood Cretini; son, Paul Cretini; daughter, Alicia Cretini Bryant and husband Nathaniel; sisters, Bediah Cretini Ward and husband Kevin, and Shawna Cretini McFatter; as well as many of his friends, all of whom he considered to be family.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Cremation will be entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
