Richard Earl Huffaker, age 100, died September 18, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Mr. Huffaker was born in Oklahoma City, Ok. and grew up in Brownsville, Tx. He lived in Lake Charles since 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a commercial shrimper in the 1950s. He built two supply boats, an 85 ft. and 65 ft. and later served as captain on offshore supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Coast, North Sea, and once was on iceberg patrol off of Newfoundland. In the 1980s he was a delivery boat captain, taking boats to West Africa, the Suez Canal, Brazil, Alaska, Japan, the Panama Canal, Guatemala, and Venezuela.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Patricia Delaune Huffaker; his daughters, Carol Huffaker Bruno and her husband, Terry; Judy Huffaker White and her husband, Mike, of Lake Charles; daughter-in-law, Lisa Huffaker D’Aquila of New Roads. Nine grandchildren, Nathan Bruno of Austin, Tx., Emily Bruno Fruge and Jason of Moss Bluff; Glenn Bruno of Lacassine; Adrienne Bruno of Lake Charles; Dana White Sebren and husband, Fred of Franklin, Tennessee; David White and Zoe of Spring, Tx.; Marissa White Crochet of Lake Charles; Erin Huffaker Machina and Billy of Dallas, Tx.; and Logan Huffaker and Macy of Denver, Co. Twelve great grandchildren: Logan Bruno; Alyssa, Hayden, and Khloe Fruge; Francesca Bruno; Parker, Braxton and Tyler Sebren; Stella and Levi Crochet; Beau White and Eloise Machina.
Preceding his death were his son, David B. Huffaker; his parents, Karl, and Nellie Huffaker; and his sisters, Margaret Huffaker McAllen, and Dorothy Huffaker Martin.
According to Richard’s wishes, his cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, and there will be no funeral service.
