Richard Howell Gandy, 59, of Lake Charles passed away, Sunday, January 05, 2014 in a local hospital. Mr. Gandy was born January 25, 1954 in Many, LA where he was raised and educated. He played football for and was a graduate of Many High School. He attended Northwestern University. Mr. Gandy worked thirty-nine years as an operator for Schlumberger, Conoco and retired in October 2013 with Calcasieu Refinery. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing and hunting in the waters and countless leases in the Many area. Mr. Gandy killed five deer his last hunting trip. He was runner up in the Tri State Championship Speckled Belly Goose calling contest. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He leaves to honor his memory, two sons, Logan Ryan Gandy, of Baton Rouge and Jordan Bruce Gandy of Lake Charles; one brother, Bruce Gandy and wife Carolyn of Many, LA; friend and mother of his children, Jamie "Perky" Janese and husband Johnny of Lake Charles; two nephews, Matthew Gandy and Scott Gandy, both of Longview, TX and his coffee buddies, Wayne McElveen and Lloyd Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Evonne Sandel Gandy and good friend, Vic Brubaker. Mr. Gandy's family wishes to express sincere thanks to Elaine, of Christus St. Patrick's Hospice and special thanks to his devoted and caring friend, Don Simon who was a pillar of strength and support daily throughout this difficult time. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 08, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Many under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Gil Arthur will officiate. Interment will follow in Many Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Visitation Wednesday will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service in the church.
