Richard “Huey” Istre, 84, of Lake Charles LA, passed away with his wife at his side on September 6, 2016 in a local care facility.
Mr. Huey was born on March 25, 1932 in Jennings, LA to Dalton and Lily Istre. Huey was married to his high school sweetheart, Mrs. Norma Price Istre for sixty three wonderful years. Mr. Istre had a love for travel and music. His Catholic faith was very important to him and he was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus. He is remembered by his adoring family as a kindhearted, witty man that used laughter to everyone’s advantage. Mr. Istre served his country in United States Army and fought in the Korean War. Professionally, Huey was a boilermaker for Firestone and at one time owned Istre Citgo and Istre Dirt Service.
Mr. Istre is survived by his wife, Norma Price Istre of Lake Charles; daughter, Vickie Istre Smith (Gerald) of Lake Charles; son, Stephen Huey Istre (Mary Ellen Carey) of Mount Pleasant, TX; sisters, Ruby Istre Smith of Sulphur, Betty Istre Phillips of Independence, and Jeanette Istre Mesh of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Amy Istre Peasgood (Shannon) of Clarksville, TN, Clint Stephen Istre of Houston, TX, Emilee Broussard Winstead (Jeffrey) of Lake Charles, and Ryan Daniel Broussard (Lycretia Guyette) of Lake Charles; four great grandchildren, Cameron Austin Peasgood, Colby Brennan Peasgood, Connor Michael Peasgood all of Clarksville, TN, and Leigh Laine Winstead of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Lily Istre; sister, Irene Istre Briggs; and brother, Harold Istre.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 12:30PM. Monsignor Danny Torres will officiate. A rosary will precede the funeral at noon on that Friday.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in to the Knights of Columbus or to Catholic Charities in Mr. Istre’s name.
