Richard Jack Speights

Richard “Jack” Speights, 82, of Sulphur passed away on September 18, 2016. Jack was born in Crystal Springs, MS in 1933. He was a graduate of Mississippi State and LSU. Jack taught chemistry and was a coach for Sulphur High for over 20 years. He led the Lady Tors to a State Championship in girls basketball, and his Sulphur Tor boys golf teams won two State Championships. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was an Elder of Mission Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Frasch Park where on many occasions he shot under his age. He also served as President of the Men’s Golf Association.

Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sarah Speights of Sulphur; his children, Lesa Speights Pritchard and husband Dean, Theresa Speights Guillory and husband Larry all of Humble, TX, Jackie Speights Breaux and husband Dan of Sulphur, and Richard “Ric” Speights, Jr. and wife Julie of Lake Charles; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zelma and Ruil Speights and his in-laws, Percy and Myrtice Hutton.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 6 P.M. in Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive on Thursday from 4 P.M. until time of the celebration.
