Richard Ramsay Gibbs

May 6, 1930 — March 4, 2012

Richard (Dick) Ramsay Gibbs 1930 - 2012 Dick passed away at his home in Sulphur on March 4, 2012 in the presence of loved ones. He was born in Powhatan Point, Ohio on May 6, 1930 to Doane and Ray Gibbs. After graduating high school in Powhatan he served in the U.S. Navy-Air Force and became a millwright in the aluminum manufacturing industry, later advancing to maintenance supervisory positions. He married Saundra Belle Martin in 1957 and the couple had four children. Dicks career took the family from Ohio to Louisiana in the mid-1970s, and he eventually settled in Hackberry enjoying life on the water there for many years. Always the creative and fun-loving man, he was known locally for his unique brightly painted house. His family and friends remember him as a talented, somewhat unorthodox free-thinker who loved the horse races and prowling the thrift stores and local pawn shops in search of a bargain to add to his collection. He was always ready with a smile or an original rhyme to brighten your day; a clever, generous and loving person. Dick will be lovingly remembered by his children Judy Gibbs-Foy, Jeffrey Gibbs (Angie), Beth Ann Smith (Warren), Susan Summers (Doug), and Delores Thompson, his companion of over thirty years. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pat Provchy, and nephew Todd Wood. At his request no formal memorial service is planned.
