Richard Wegener

Surrounded by his family, Richard Eric “Red” Wegener, 57, passed away in Webster, Texas, on Friday, September 1, 2017. 

 

He was born in New Orleans and raised in Lake Charles by his loving parents, G.J. (Gitch) and Gloria Wegener. He graduated from A. M. Barbe High School in 1978 and received an Electrical Engineering Technology degree in March of 1986 from Louisiana Tech University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Upon graduation, he moved to the Clear Lake, Texas area, and worked as a systems engineer for various contractors at the Johnson Space Center for over 22 years. Richard was known for his sense of humor, as well as his kindness and helpfulness to others. His love of hunting and fishing began at a very early age with trips to the duck camp with his Dad, and he enjoyed the outdoors for the rest of his life.

 

Richard leaves behind his parents, Gitch and Gloria; devoted wife of 30 years, Sharon; beloved daughter, Whitney; sister, Julie Wegener; sister-in-law, Cynthia Monroe, and husband Mike of Littleton, Colorado; brothers-in-law, Jim Malsch and wife, Bobbie, of Shreveport, and David Malsch and wife, Beata, of Malmo, Sweden; nephew, Timothy Monroe; nieces, Brittany Castillo and husband Marty, Samantha Causey, and Ashley Monroe; and great nephews, Teddy and Gus Castillo.

 

Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Charles Miller on Saturday, September 9th at St. John Lutheran Church, 600 University Drive, Lake Charles. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM at the church, with the funeral service immediately following at 2 PM. Burial will be held at Highland Memorial Park.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. John Lutheran Church.
