Rickey Flynn Janies

September 17, 1949 — August 7, 2017

Rickey Flynn Janies, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 7, 2017.  Rick was born on September 17, 1949 to Clarence and Imogene Janies in Oakdale, LA.  He was a member of the 1965 Sulphur High School Football State Championship team.  Rick was trained as a combat medic and served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam Era.  After serving in the Army, he completed his education earning a Master’s Degree at McNeese State University.  Rick retired from Citgo.

Rick loved all sports especially Friday night Sulphur High Football, LSU and New Orleans Saints.  He loved coaching his daughter, Sarah and her friends in fast pitch softball.  He was a giant of a man with a tender heart and never met a stranger.  Most of all he loved his Savior and it showed by the way he took care of his family.  He fought the good fight and he kept the faith.  He left it all on the field nothing on the sidelines.

He was a great dad and proud pops of six grandchildren.  He always saw to it his children and grandchildren’s needs were taken care of before his own.  Orin, Sydnee and Avree Byrd and Emmy, Asher and Trace Broussard brought him unspeakable joy.

He will be coaching on his wife of 43 years, Susan Bishop Janies; his daughters, Amy (Joshua) Byrd and Sarah Broussard; his brother, Rodney Janies (Joan) of San Diego, CA; his sisters by marriage, Sharon Dailey, Barbara (Stephen) Mason, Debbie (Mike) Ferrando and Cathi Manuel; his nephews, Derek Hart, Adam (Lindsey) Janies, Levi Janies, Kade Savoie, Luke Manual, Brittain Moore, Timothy Moore, Christopher Moore, Zachary Moore, Caleb Bertrand and Hunter Bertrand; and his precious nieces, Tina (Jonathon) Matte, Kelly (Wally) Butler, Laura (Jason) Oliverez and Stephanie (Mitch) Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Imogene Janies; his parents by marriage, Wanda and James M. Bishop; his brother, Ronald Janies; his son, Clancy Flynn Janies; two grandsons; and his brother by marriage, Carroll Dailey.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Lewis, Amanda Burnett, NP and Dr. Lugo along with their staffs for fighting the fight with us.  Thank you Memorial Hospital ICU nurses.

Services for Rick will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11AM at the First Church of the Nazarene in Lake Charles with Reverend John Hoffpauir officiating.  Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South in Carlyss.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur from 4-9 PM.  The visitation will continue on Friday from 9-11 AM at the church in Lake Charles.
