Robert "Bob" Joseph Hurst

Robert “Bob” Joseph Hurst, 81, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:50 AM on Friday, April 27, 2018 in his residence.

 

Mr. Hurst was born January 3, 1937 in Laurel, MS and served his country in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years, retiring as Technical Sergeant. He moved to Lake Charles in 1975 and began a career at the Lake Charles American Press, where he worked for twenty years and retired as the circulation supervisor. Following the second retirement, Mr. Hurst went to work at Frash Golf Course. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he was active with the Vacation Bible School every year. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and gardening and loved to show off his tomatoes and cucumbers to anyone that would take the time to see them, but his true passion in life was for his family.

 

Mr. Hurst is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Jeanette Hurst; children, Kay Broussard and husband Blane of Westlake, LA, Joey Hurst of Dallas, TX, Missy Lazenby and husband Jerry of Kinder, LA, Pat Fugatt and husband Ken of Lake Charles, Mike Mouton and wife Jana of Dallas, TX, and Christine Beatty and husband Kevin of Dallas, TX; sister, Judy Robinson of Laurel, MS; brother-in-law, Gene Stringer of Laurel MS; first wife and mother of his children, Cathy Davis of Lake Charles; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his beloved fur babies, Bijou, Casey, Beau, and Jolie.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Nell Knight Creel; his grandparents, who raised him, William and Clio Knight; sister, Mary Frances Stringer; and grandchildren, Nicholas Fugatt, Amberly Hathaway, and Chase Broussard.

 

His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Kevin Richard will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will be at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
