Robert Capaldi, 92, of Lake Charles passed away on January 31, 2011 in a local Hospital surrounded by his family.
A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he graduated from Central High School, and attended Rhode Island School of Design.
After being honorably discharged from military service in 1945, he chose to settle in Lake Charles, where he was employed by Sears, Roebuck, and Co. as Advertising/Sales Promotion Manager, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the early Advertising and Press Club, The Evening Lions Club, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2130, and The American Legion Post No. 1.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Capali participated in the Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Campaigns. While in the 8th Air Force, he participated in 34 combat missions as a B-17 tail gunner and staff sergeant. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, three battle stars, National Defense Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Capaldi is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy Newman Capaldi; his children, Robbie Capaldi Faul, Donna Capaldi (Kelly) Barker, Susie (Conrad) Schatzle, Buddy (Jocelyn) Milford, and Ron (Patsy) Milford; one brother, Daniel Capaldi of RI; one sister, Evelyn Duncan of FL., and many loving grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will forever be remembered as a kind and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, February, 3, 2011 at 11AM in Johnson Funeral Home. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3PM until 9PM with a rosary at 6:15PM. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8Am until time of service.
