Robert Earl Wattner

September 21, 1955 — September 11, 2021

Robert Earl Wattner, 65 of Westlake, died Saturday, September 11, 2021, at a local nursing home.  He was born on September 21, 1955, in Lake Charles, LA to Woodrow and Zenda Wattner.

The youngest of 3 children, older brother Travis and older sister, Carolyn, Robert grew up on Miller Ave in Westlake.  His father owned and operated Woody’s Coin Shop out of their home for many years.  While growing up in Westlake, Robert met his best friend, Morgan Willis; they remained close friends right up and until the time of Robert’s passing.

Robert was a 1973 graduate of Westlake High School. Right after graduation, Robert moved to Houston and began working for a steel company.  While in Houston, he married and had 2 sons, Daniel and Christopher; his stepson Scott also lived with them during that time.  Although he lived in Houston, his heart was always in Westlake.

Robert eventually found his way back to Westlake.  He loved to stay up on current affairs and was always willing to let you know what was happening.  Often whether you ask or not.  Robert loved listening to music; his favorite was rock and roll and he had an extensive knowledge of songs and bands.  Even in his final days, nothing made him happier than listening to music.  He also loved to take pictures.   He would ofter set up several cameras in the hope of catching the perfect or most unusual shot.

Robert’s parents used to rent a beach house in Galveston during the summers.  Various family members would come and stay during those trips.  Most evenings you could count on a friendly poker game at the kitchen table.  Some of his fondest memories were about those Galveston trips.

Robert was preceded in death by his brother Travis in 1971, who died from complications from polio; his father, Woody died in 1984; his mother, Zenda in 1966; and his sister, Carolyn in December 2020.  Robert was very close to his sister, and always looked forward to Christmas because he knew Carolyn would send him home with enough gumbo and potato salad to last a week.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Daniel Wattner and Christopher Wattner; his stepson, Scott Moore; his nephew, Greg Savant; and 6 grandchildren. He loved showing pictures of the grandchildren.
