Robert J. Bob Foret

Robert Joseph Bob Foret, 88, of Lake Charles died Saturday, December 29, 2012 in a local healthcare facility.


Bob was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, on July 7, 1924. He attended Louisiana State University (LSU) and graduated from SLI (USL, now ULL) with a bachelor's degree in Education in 1950.


During his younger years, Bob enjoyed boat racing. He served as Commander of the Calcasieu Boat Club and President of the Greater Gulf Coast Boating Association. He also loved dancing, and served as President of Le Bon Temps Dance Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3208, and American Legion WB Williamson Post No. 1, where he volunteered many hours cooking. He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church.


Bob was enrolled at LSU when Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941. He received his Army basic training in combat engineering at Ft. Leonard wood, MO, and his Lieutenant's commission at Ft. Benning, GA.


He served as a motor transport officer in Luzon, Philippines during World War II as part of the 342nd Infantry Regiment.


Bob's teaching career began at Iowa High School in 1961, where he taught Civics, Algebra, and Industrial Arts. He continued his teaching career in Industrial Arts at LaGrange Junior High and ultimately retired from LaGrange Senior High in May 1980.


He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ricky (Becky) Mestayer of Carlyss and one grandson, Jared Sensat and fiance'e' Courtney Heagy of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by both of his wives, Jean White of Bogalusa, Louisiana, and Evelyne Fadaol of Opelousas, Louisiana; his parents, Joe and Etta Foret; and two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Elaine) Thomas of Bogalusa and Mrs. William (Marjorie) Kellner of Lafayette.


Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with an American Legion service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
