Robert Malcolm Fry was born in Palestine, Texas on September 26, 1946 to Harold and Margaret Fry, where he no doubt became an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
He was known as Dad, Papaw, Bob, Uncle Bob, Mr. Bob and even Big Squirt to his family and friends. Both he and his brother, Russell T. Fry “Rusty”, grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana with his parents while his father served in the Air Force. Bob pursued a career with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office after graduating from Lagrange High School.
Bob’s greatest love was his family and raising his four children, Angie Fry (Briggs), Chip Fry (Michelle), Haley Guillory (Josh), and Connor Fry. His love of family was also seen in the relationships and memories he had with his grandchildren, Sydnie Johnson, Maddox Fry, Branson Guillory, Jamie Guillory, Daniel Guillory and Gabe Courmier; his nieces, Jenny Fry (Chad) and Kim Fry; his great nephews, Carlo, Russell, Christian, Gage, Cole and Great Niece Cora; Sister- in- law “Aunt” Pat; and many cousins and extended family members with whom he has continued to stay in touch.
Bob has left a strong legacy to his family, rich in love and accomplishments which have led to many of those mentioned above following in his footsteps and sharing similar interests. Some of these include his martial arts background as a third degree black belt in Shotokan Karate; a fullback for Lagrange High School’s 1963 State AAA Semi Finalist and 1964 2-AAA Co-Champion football teams where he also excelled in track and field, basketball, and served on the student council for four years; his 34 year career in Law Enforcement where he held many duties including working in corrections, patrol, detectives, handwriting and ballistics expert, The CPSO Forensic Investigative Unit, and finally retiring from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Civil Division. Bob was also a member of the first Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. He was part of the local magic club and spent countless hours refining his magician skills, “Mr. Bob’s Magic”.
Above all of these accomplishments, his life and memories were comprised of a strong faith which guided him in his thoughts and actions. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served on the sound crew working in the sound and projection booth for services.
Our beloved Robert M. Fry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret Fry; brother, Rusty Fry; son, Connor James Fry; and infant son, Michal Dean Fry.
He is survived by his remaining children, grandchildren, extended family members listed above and many lifelong friends with whom he worked, met and shared many memories.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2020 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Randy Monroe will officiate.
