Robert “Riggs” Easterling, 82, of Sulphur, LA passed away at home January 23, 2025. Riggs was born in Bogalusa, LA and graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1960. Riggs married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Fisher, in 1963. After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in Accounting, Riggs moved to Lake Charles to work for PPG. A unique role was created for Riggs in cost accounting that took him to Japan, France and Italy. He also spent more than four decades in the automotive industry.
Riggs will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, a loyal friend and mentor, and a brilliant, hilarious storyteller who never met a stranger. An avid card player, Riggs was a LifeMaster bridge player and competitive poker player. He was most proud, however, of being Poppy, the title he held nearest and dearest to his heart.
Riggs is survived by his loving wife Cheryl Easterling (nee Fisher), children: Lori Easterling (Butch Wynne), David Easterling (Stephanie) and Daren Pippio (Dean); sisters: Diane Nelson, Deidra Simm (Alfred), and Dwanne Kibodeaux; grandchildren: Hailey Wynne Jacobs (Chance), Tate Buck, Pierce Easterling, Blaire Buck, and Riggs Easterling; and a great-granddaughter Kyree Coraline Wynne.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Evelyn Easterling.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 2-4 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Sulphur.
