Robert Scott Hankins

Robert Scott Hankins, 48, of Lake Charles died at 11:26 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Hankins was a native and life long resident of Lake Charles where he was a 1979 graduate of Barbe High School. He graduated from McNeese State University in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Mass Communications. Following his education, he first served as a city editor for the Orange Leader before serving as the editor of the Orange County News which was owned by Beaumont Enterprise. That department was closed and Mr. Hankins transferred with the Beaumont Enterprise as a reporter. He most recently worked for the County Record in Bridge City, TX as a reporter. Mr. Hankins belonged to the Press Club of Southeast Texas and was a recipient of countless awards for his outstanding writing ability.


He had previously attended University United Methodist Church and currently attended St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church.


He is survived by his wife, Martha Hankins and his father, Dr. B.E. Hankins both of Lake Charles. He was also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Lynn Fuson Hankins in 2001.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Karl Klaus and Rev. Roger Templeton will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.


Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family will be at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday. Visitation on Tuesday will be from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A private visitation for the family will be from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the funeral services.
