Rodney James "Slick" Pesson

Rodney James “Slick” Pesson, 63, of Lake Charles, died Monday, July 1, 2019, in a local hospital.

Mr. Pesson was born and raised in Lake Charles, lived many years in Humble, Texas, and returned home to Lake Charles 10 years ago. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School where he was a member of the Rodeo team as a bull rider. He also attended McNeese State University. During his younger years he worked cattle on the family farm. He then began driving cross country for J. B. Hunt Trucking, Co. and Trism Transportation, Inc. He received two-million-mile safety awards. He loved dancing, boiling and eating crawfish and family gatherings. Mr. Pesson’s greatest love was the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He was an active volunteer for the events and was most proud of his 25-year collection of the Houston badges and rodeo buckles. He was also a member of the Red Brahman Association. He will be most remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to the family.

He leaves to honor his memory, his father, Roland Francis Pesson Sr. of Lake Charles; three sisters, Brenda Pesson Wilkinson and Donna Pesson Mier of Lake Charles, Kitty Pesson Decareaux and husband David of Canyon Lake, Texas; two brothers, Roland Francis “Buddy” Pesson, Jr. and wife Monica of Lake Charles, and Steven Paul Pesson of Sisterdale, Texas; nieces and nephews, Stacey Vezinot, Garrett Wilkinson, Dustin Mier, Brittney Welch, Travis Mier, Chip Pesson, Corey Pesson, Anise Morien, Chanda Shepherd, Haley Pesson, Lindley Franks, Delane Gause and Deanne Benuck; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his mother, Norma Vallot Pesson; and brother-in-law, John H. Wilkinson.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Trey Ange will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday will be from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation Wednesday will be from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
