Rodney Joseph Jones

Rodney Joseph Jones, 89, of Lake Charles died on Friday, February 27, 2015 in a local care facility. Mr. Jones was born on August 31, 1925 in Washington, LA, was raised in Ville Platte and lived most of his life in Lake Charles. Following high school he joined the U. S. Army. He was enlisted from 1943 to 1952 having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He traveled to many places during his enlistment which allowed him to meet the love of his life in Arkansas. Mr. Jones retired from Vista as an operator. He was a dedicated member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of Monsignor Cramer's, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a league bowler with the organization and was a recipient of many awards including Knight of the Year in 1993. Mr. Jones was a dedicated family man and will be missed dearly. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Janet Hoff and husband Richard of Deridder; three sons and their wives, Randy Jones and Beverly of Lake Charles, Eric Jones and Rhonda of Sulphur, and Brian Jones and Mona of Gillis; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Jones of Lake Charles; a sister, Eva Ortego of Ville Platte; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ilene Jones; a son, Bill Jones; his parents, Bertha and Leo Jones; a sister, Odile Broussard; and two brothers, Aubrey and Robert Jones. A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The Rev. Ruben Buller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume in the funeral home on Monday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 1:00 PM.
