Roger Hickerson

June 1, 1929 — January 5, 2018

Roger Neil Hickerson, 88, passed away on January 5, 2018 in Lake Charles, LA.

He leaves behind his wife, Wanda Hebert Hickerson; nine children, Brian Hickerson of Vinton, LA, Bruce Hickerson of Chandler, AZ, Beth Hickerson Berry of Watson, OK, Cathy Hickerson LeDoux of Sulphur, LA, Robert Dousay and wife Deborah of Magnolia, TX, Jackie Dousay Lanham and husband Delbert of Lake Charles, LA, Kemp Dousay and wife Angie of Dequincy, LA Nancy Dousay Faulk and and husband Joel of Lake Charles, LA, and Peggy Dousay Stollsteimer and husband Robert of Iowa, LA; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Crispell Hickerson, his mother, Mildred Elizabeth Hickerson, and his father, Gage LeRoy Hickerson.

Roger was born on June 1, 1929 in Findlay, OH and graduated from Mount Blanchard High School as the valedictorian of his class before attending CASE Institute of Technology where he received a B.A. in Chemical Engineering followed by a Masters in Engineering Science from Lamar University. He was a Mason with McNeil Lodge #440 in McNeil, AR, served his country as an engineer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and had a successful career spanning forty years with Olin Chemical Corporation.

Roger was a long-standing member of Covenant Grace Church. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed fishing, golf, motorcycles, traveling and a good challenge.

Though Roger was, by all accounts, an intelligent and accomplished man, he also leaves behind a most significant legacy of love, faith, and character. Dubbed the “bone crusher” on his high school football team, Roger’s physical stature and strength paled in comparison to his enormous heart and his love for his family, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and his beloved wife of 27 years. All who knew him agree that he was kind, tender-hearted, witty, trustworthy, and sincere – a true man of integrity whose “word was his bond”. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by many.

The life of Roger Hickerson will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10 am during a graveside gathering with military honors at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery, 2220 Country Club Road, Lake Charles, LA, followed by a private family service at Covenant Grace Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5-8 pm at Johnson Funeral Home at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA.
