Roland Allen Manuel

Roland Allen Manuel, 83, of Lake Charles died at 2:30 PM Friday, August 23, 2013 surrounded by his children.

Mr. Manuel was born on January 25, 1930 in Basile, LA. He graduated from Basile High School where he played 1st string football. He and his wife Mildred Fontenot Manuel married in 1949. He and his wife, Mildred, moved to Lake Charles in 1952 where he worked for Chennault Air Force Base. He started in 1965 working for Governor Edwin Edwards and worked for him through Edwards' career.

He also worked for Senator John Breaux in the Lake Charles office. He and his wife were members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Lake Charles.

Mr. Manuel devoted his entire life to his family and his friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking for friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Chad Manuel and his wife Barbara, his daughter, Jennifer Jenny and Carl Napoli; his grandchildren and their spouses, Tammie Thomas and Ricky, Yvette Shaughnessy and Tim, Shane Manuel and Kristy, Amanda Blair and Preston, Kristen Moore and Ben, and Anna Chandler and Colby, Corey and Mica Manuel; and his great grandchildren, Brittanie Manuel, Austin Bazinet, Logan and Collin Shaughnessy, Andrew Ogea, Mark Manuel, Peyton Blair, Lizzy and Benjamin David Moore, Ethan and Ellie Manuel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Fontenot Manuel, his son, Wilvan Ray Manuel and a daughter, Kayla Marie Manuel. They were married in 1949 and married for 63 years.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11AM on Sunday, August 25, 2013 with a memorial service at 2PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Msgn. Charles Dubois will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers are Shane Manuel, Corey Manuel, Former Governor Edwin Edwards, District Attorney John Derosier, and Claude Buddy Leach.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Keith Lechtenberg and St. Patrick's hospice for their good care and kindness.
