Roland Eddie Parker, 70, of Lake Charles, LA died on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
Mr. Parker was born February 23, 1940 in Westlake, LA, where he attended Westlake High School and lived most of his life in the Lake Charles area. In 1995 he retired after over thirty years of cross country truck driving. During his career, he worked for various companies, including Kroger's and J.B. Hunt. He received the One-Million Mile Safe Driving Award. After retirement, Mr. Parker worked the bingo hall for the Westlake Cage Club and the American Legion Post # 1, and he drove the bus for CARC. He just started working for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office as a crossing guard. He enjoyed bowling and playing Bingo, but his greatest joy in life was his family. He will always be remembered as a family man who never met a stranger.
Mr. Parker is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Esther Hydle Parker of Lake Charles; children, Michael Parker, Sheila Darbonne, both of Westlake, LA, Rhonda McMillian and husband Kenneth of Las Vegas, NV, Kaye Parker of Carlyss, Sheldon Parker and wife Leslie of Sulphur, and Jeffrey Parker and wife Kim of Lake Charles; brothers, J. D. Parker and David Parker; sisters, Edna Owens, Bertha Mae Elizza, and Mary Esther Webb; twenty-eight grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Keith Parker; parents; one brother, and two sisters.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dr. Bart Leger will officiate. Burial will follow in the new Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
Donations can be made in his name to any of the schools in Moss Bluff.
