Roland Esthay

February 25, 1932 — July 19, 2012

Roland Esthay 79, of Moss Bluff, LA died on Thursday, July 19, 2012 in a local hospital. Mr. Esthay was born February 25, 1933 in Lake Charles, LA to a family of nine children.


He served his country in the Army for almost four years and served in the Korean War. He then met and married the love of his life, Patline McCauley Esthay in 1954. They moved to Moss Bluff in 1972 where they raised their family. He coached Little League baseball and football for many years. He worked as a truck driver with Texaco for more than twenty years and he and his wife opened up the first shoe store in Moss Bluff, Esthay's Thom McAn in 1979. He also worked construction work with West Cal for many years before his retirement at the age of 64. He was also a carpenter and built his family three homes. He enjoyed listening and dancing to French music and peeling pecans to give away to family and friends.


Mr. Esthay is survived by his wife of 58 yrs, Patline McCauley Esthay of Moss Bluff; daughter, Deborah Esthay Mayfield and husband Kevin of Pearland, TX.; son, Karl Esthay and wife Debbie Phillips Esthay of Moss Bluff; brothers, Durphy Esthay and wife Lillian, Wilbert Esthay and wife Jenny, Terry Esthay and wife Bessie; sisters, Carrie Esthay Leblanc and husband Cline, Esther Esthay Mere; grandchildren, Tiffiani Dunn Laverell and husband Justin, Brooke Mayfield, Hunter Esthay, and Kameron Esthay; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Peyton Laverell; Godchild, Doris Mere Voussine; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Empress Esthay; brother Melvin Esthay, and sisters, Margie Noel and Myrl Esthay.

His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday, July 21st from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. and again on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will follow at Black Bayou Cemetery.
