Roland Francis Pesson, Sr.

July 31, 1928 — March 30, 2021

Roland Francis Pesson, Sr., 92, of Lake Charles passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in a local hospital surrounded by his family.

Mr. Pesson was born in New Iberia, LA to Dennis and Olivia Pesson.  A graduate of St. Peters College of New Iberia, he moved to Lake Charles in 1948 and began his career as a Plumber.  He started his own company, Pesson Plumbing and Heating, Inc. in 1956 and achieved Master Plumber Status.  Through the years his sons and grandson worked alongside him.  In 1982 Mr. Pesson began to pursue his passion of breeding exotic animals.  A well-respected mentor and expert in both industries of his success, he was often called upon and referred to throughout the state level and national level for guidance.  He was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitter’s Local #106, served on the local and State Plumbing Board of Louisiana for years,  was a lifetime member of the Home Builders Association, served on the Board of Directors for the Exotic Wildlife Association on the national and state level, was a member of SWLA Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and gatherings of family.  Mr. Pesson was an admirable man of faith and family who raised his children in Catholic School and encouraged and supported Catholic education.  He was a pioneer member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church parish.  As a founding parishioner, he was honored to handle the plumbing for Monsignor Irving DeBlanc and instrumental in the design and execution of the baptismal font.  Mr. Pesson will be most remembered for his love and devotion and as a great provider to his family, friends and those in need.   

The family of Mr. Pesson wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Jeanette Dupre for her loving care of their father.

He leaves to honor his memory, Jeanette Dupre of Moss Bluff; four children, Brenda Wilkinson and Donna Mier, both of Lake Charles, Steven Pesson (Marta Muslin) of Sisterdale, TX, and Kitty Decareaux (David) of Canyon Lake, TX; daughter-in-law; Monica Pesson of Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, Stacey Vezinot (Matthew), Garrett Wilkinson (Victoria), Dustin Mier (Amanda), Brittney Welch (Jameson), Travis Mier (Krystan), Roland F. “Chip” Pesson, III (Dana), Corey Pesson (Jodi), Anise Morein (Shane), Chanda Shepherd (Blaine), Haley Pesson, Lindley Franks (Wade), Delane Gauze (Patrick) and Deanne Benuck; thirty great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and his beloved fur baby, “Baby”.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Roland F. “Buddy” Pesson, Jr. and Rodney J. “Slick” Pesson; son-in-law, John Wilkinson; mother of his children, Norma V. Pesson; his parents and five siblings and their spouses, Ruby McDonnell (George), Roy Pesson (Gloria), Rosa Stokeld (Sonny) and Rena Gastinel (Bill).

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 06, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Levi Thompson will officiate.  Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation Monday will be from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 11:00 AM until the start of services at the church. 

Pallbearers for his services will be Garrett Wilkinson, Roland “Chip” Pesson, III, Corey Pesson, Dustin Mier, Travis Mier and Shane Morein.

Memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Education System of your choice.
