Roland John Doucet, Sr.

Roland John Doucet, Sr., 76, of Lake Charles, LA died at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. Doucet was born on May 29, 1938 in Eunice, LA and lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA. French was his first language, until attending school when he learned English. He was a 1956 graduate of LaGrange Senior High, graduated from Loyola University with his Doctor of Pharmacy and received his Master's Degree in Economics from McNeese State University. He worked for thirty-five years at Merck Pharmaceuticals as a representative. Following his retirement, he was a stockbroker and vice-president of Doucet Asset Management for a number of years. Mr. Doucet was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church for over fifty years. He served as a church lector, was a Eucharistic minister, trustee, and served on the school board at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish Counsel. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Angels of Southwest Louisiana. Mr. Doucet was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He also loved to read and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball in his younger years. He adored his wife and loved his family dearly, especially his children and grandchildren, and will be missed by all who loved him. He will always be remembered for his gift of gab, his stories, and his sense of humor. Mr. Doucet is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Esther "Squeaky" Doucet of Lake Charles; children, Roland "Jack" Doucet, Jr. and wife Terri of Lake Charles, Christopher Doucet and wife Suzette of Birmingham, AL, Carole Edwards and husband Jeff of Slidell, LA, Vickie Stratton and husband Kirk of Beaumont, TX, and Michelle Jardell of Sulphur, LA; grandchildren, James and Matthew Doucet, Jean-Paul, Genevieve, and Marguerite Doucet, Allison, Samuel, and Charlie Stratton, and Gabriel Courmier; and close friend, Gayle Marshall and wife Anne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce and Eunice Doucet; brothers, Paul Morris and Richard Louis Doucet; infant sister, Mary Doucet; and a grandson, William Andrew Doucet. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 9:40 AM.
