Ronnie Wayne Odom

Ronnie Wayne Odom, 73, of Lake Charles died on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Odom was born in Elizabeth, Louisiana and was raised in the Plainview, Louisiana community.  He was a 1961 graduate of Plainview High School and a 1972 and 1979 graduate of McNeese State University.  He served in the United States Air Force and was a Command Sgt. Major in the United States Army Reserve having retired a Finance Disbursement Officer.  He was proud to serve Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait.  Mr. Odom was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #1 and VFW Post #2139.  From 1981 – 2001 “Coach Odom” taught American History and Free Enterprise at Barbe High School where he was the head golf coach, offensive back coach for the football team, assistant basketball and track coach.  He was a member of the SWLA Umpire Association, a referee in the SWLA Football Officials Association, enjoyed officiating high school football and umpiring high school baseball and girls softball. Mr. Odom was also a member of US Golf Association, McNeese Cowboy Club and Sale St. Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Beverly June Welch; his parents, Minnie and Lenox Odom and a nephew, Randal Johnson.

Mr. Odom is survived by two sisters, Frances O. Johnson of Oakdale, LA and Kay Jacobs and husband John of Houston, TX; three nephews, Michael Welch of Austin, TX, Gregg Jacobs of Houston, TX and Shannon Johnson of Moss Bluff and one niece, Lisa Welch Posey of Kyle, TX and many friends. 

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Sale Street Baptist Church.  Rev. Randy Edwards will officiate.   Visitation Tuesday will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church.

The family of Mr. Odom extends heartfelt thanks to Henry Burge for being a kind, caring and devoted friend.
