Roosevelt Guidry, Jr., 92 passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Lake Charles on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was born on December 8, 1929 to Elmyre and Roosevelt Guidry, Sr. in Plaquemine, LA.
Roosevelt was the oldest of seven children. He was a strong, influential, self-made man who lived by his actions. He believed in doing what is right, and doing it “by the book.” Early in his life he began developing a work ethic that he would live by his entire life. When he was twelve years old he made brooms for extra money. When he was fourteen, he drove a potato truck, and he volunteered to serve water at a German camp.
In 1949 he helped build St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. He also helped build Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked under the Local 207 Carpenter’s Union. He also worked for Lone Star Cement Plant and Entex, and he owned and operated a lawn maintenance service. He retired from PPG as an Operator after thirty years of faithful service, where he earned many safety awards, and never missed a day of work. Mr. Guidry’s hobby was owning and training race horses – both quarter horses and thoroughbreds.
