Rose Grace Jelly Lady Lofaso Brocat Cooper

Rose Grace Lofaso Brocato Cooper, 89, of Lake Charles died at 9:51 AM on Friday, May 11, 2012 in her residence.


Mrs. Cooper was born on August 6, 1922 in Lake Charles, LA. As a young woman she worked as a car hop for Joseph's Drive-In, did clerical work for Magnolia Life Insurance Company for three years, was a secretary to the department head of Sun Ray Oil, and also did clerical work for the Federal Housing Administration for ten years. Mrs. Cooper then moved to Houston where she was an apartment complex manager for nearly twenty years. She returned to Lake Charles in 1988. Following retirement, she volunteered work by doing income tax for the elderly up until a month ago.


She was known as the "Jelly Lady" to many, earning this name for giving her home made jelly away. Mrs. Cooper also loved dancing.


Those left to cherish her memory is one son, Peter "Buddy" John Brocato, Jr and wife Leticia of Lake Charles; a daughter, Mary Ellen Tellbuescher and husband Chuck of Bay Pines, FL; nine grandchildren, Shannon and Marissa Brocato, Melissa Nunez, Rebecca Guillory, Miranda, and Brianna Rose Brocato, and Christopher, Cory, and Curt Tellbuescher; nineteen great grandchildren; and a long time companion, Alvin Touchet of Lake Charles.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Lofaso Gunn and John Lofaso; two brothers, Sam and Frank Lofaso; and two sisters, Congetta Lofaso and Mary Fazzio.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gary Evers will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until the start of the services.
