Rose Prejean

Rosa Mae "Rose" Prejean, 80, of Lake Charles died on Friday, January 7, 2011 in a local hospital.


Mrs. Prejean was born in Scott, LA on May 17, 1930 and moved to Lake Charles upon marriage. Upon the death of her husband she began working at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Daycare for the next 19 years. Mrs. Prejean was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society and also sang in the choir.


She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many.


Those left to cherish her memory are seven children, Janice Comeaux of Sulphur, Elaine Wilburn and husband Bob of Lake Charles, Gerald Prejean of Lake Charles, Theresa Faix and husband Pete of Pittsburgh, PA, Frances Prejean of Lafayette, Keith Prejean and wife Shana of Moss Bluff, and Glen Prejean of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Sybil Blanchard of Mire, LA and Ethel Harvey of Scott; a brother, Elmo Lantier of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Kilpatrick and husband David, Ryan Comeaux, Erica and Kayla Wilburn, Heather, Jonathan, and Rebecca Faix, and Lauren, Hunter, and Rosemary Prejean; six great grandchildren, Elaina, Andrew, and Olivia Kilpatrick, Bradyn Romero, and Payton and Landon Comeaux; two sisters-in-law, Enola Lantier of Scott and Edna Lantier of Lafayette; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Frances "Miss Punk" Schmid.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Elie Lantier; husband, Calvin C. Prejean; two brothers, Antoine and Freddie Lantier; and two grandchildren, Brad and Kelly Comeaux.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rose's dedicated caregivers for the past year, Glenda Bertrand and Emily Trahan. Also to her doctors for their continuous care and support, Dr. Susan Ieyoub, Dr. Erich Wolf, Dr. Xavier Mousset, Dr. Luke Williams, and Dr. Francis Bride.


A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Okorougo will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM in the funeral home.
