Roxie Anne Smith Stewart, 76, of Lake Charles, LA, passed at 2:50 PM on Monday, March 7, 2016 in a local hospital surrounded by her family and friends.
Mrs. Stewart was born September 21, 1939 in Lake Charles, LA and was a 1957 graduate of Lake Charles High School, where she was a Kiltie. She worked at LSU Medical Center from 1964 to 1973, where she progressed to be the administrative assistant to the Chancellor at LSU Medical Center where she helped Larry obtain his medical degree. She was a member of the Lake Charles Country Club Ladies Golf Association from 1973 to present. Roxie was also a member of Krew de Mystique from 1975 to present and served as Queen Anna XXXVIII in 2010. She was a past member of Immaculate Conception Cathedral and current member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Roxie loved and adored her family dearly. She also enjoyed cooking for others, sharing her recipes and will be remembered for her rum cake. Roxie loved to play golf and travel and some of her fondest memories were traveling to Ireland and playing golf with her husband, Larry and going to the BVI with her best friends, Jim, Dwane, and Idell. She was a member of the Lake Charles Duplicate Bridge Club and enjoyed playing Bridge with her cousin Michael.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Larry Don Stewart, M.D.; daughters, Lisa Anne Riley of Cannon City, CO and Susan Jeanine Stewart of Sebastopol, CA; son, Larry Don “Bo” Stewart, Jr. and wife Erin of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Summer Simpson and husband Mark, Zachary Temple and wife Amy, Catherine delaPaz and husband Sammy, Eamon Wilkinson and wife Laura, Parker Stewart, and Stratton Stewart; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Roland “Bo” and Catherine Smith.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Monsignors Harry Greig and Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers for the service will be Bo Stewart, Magnus Tedestedt, Michael Hickman, Bobby Tadlock, David Tadlock, and Douglas McElveen.
