Roy Mervin Hicks, of Moss Bluff, LA, went to be with the Lord at 7:10 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021 in his residence.
Mr. Hicks was 89 years old, born November 5, 1931 in McCall, LA, and lived a number of years in the Reeves / Kinder areas before moving to Moss Bluff thirty-four years ago. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a cross country truck driver and following his retirement he worked nine years for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office as a crossing guard at Sam Houston High School. Mr. Hicks was a member of First Apostolic Church in Moss Bluff. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, especially over a cup of coffee and loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Neatha Miller Hicks of Moss Bluff; children, Frederick Hicks and wife Brenda Gail of Highlands, TX, Dianna Hicks of Moss Bluff, Michael Hicks and wife Sandra of Crosby, TX, and Charlotte Fontenot and husband Mark of Moss Bluff; brother, Sherald Hicks and wife Nelda of Many, LA; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Hicks and Thelma Cole Hicks; brothers, Arnold Hicks, Ray Hicks, and James Hicks; and a great-grandchild, Abigail Faith Wilson.
His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Pastor Jon Hair will officiate along with special guest speaker, Bishop Tommy Jackson. Burial will follow in New Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
