Roy Wymon Stokes, 85, of Sulphur, passed away on December 13, 2011 in his residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10a.m. at Robison Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven Wright officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Oakdale, La. with a graveside service at 3p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 5-9p.m. at Robison Funeral Home and will resume on Friday at the funeral home 8a.m. until time of service. Roy was a native of Calcasieu, La. coming to Sulphur in 1950. After high school he served his country in the US Navy during WW11. Upon completion of his military service, he attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, where he received a degree in Chemistry. Later he received a Masters Degree in Education from LSU and completed his +30 at McNeese State University. He started teaching in 1950 at Frasch Elementary and then went to DS Perkins as a Principal. Roy then returned to Frasch as a Principal. In 1972 he became Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools in Calcasieu Parish where he retired in 1984. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his yard and playing with the grandchildren. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles. Roy is survived by his two daughters; Anne Heidrich and husband, Darrel of Manvel, TX and Katherine Marler and husband, Eric of Reeves, LA, two sons; John Stokes of Alvin. TX and Roy Stokes and wife, Nellie of Lafayette, LA, two brothers; John Stokes of Alexandria, LA and Whit Stokes and wife, Sybil of New Iberia, LA, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Stokes and nine siblings.
