Ruby Nell Humphries entered eternal life in heaven December 16, 2024 in Lake Charles, LA. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 30, 1939 to Herman Forest Humphries and Artrue Vena Crow Humphries, she was the fifth of six children. The family moved to Houston, Texas during the Depression and attended Broadway Baptist Church, where Ruby at 12 years old, accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She attended Southmayd Elementary, Deady Junior High, Milby High School, and Business College in Houston, Texas.
Ruby's happiest moments were Hearth & Home with family and friends front and central in her life. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren each have stories to share of how her love and support touched their lives. She attended First Pentecostal Church of Lake Charles where she joined several Bible Groups. She happily donated her one-of-a-kind Christmas tree skirts to church fundraisers. Ruby was known for her beautiful sewing and for her enjoyment of cooking. She loved baking biscuits and bread for family and neighbors. Ruby was a Camp Fire Girl Leader and served on the Central School PTA Committee. Ruby's natural gifts were continuously creating DIY home improvements with paintbrush in hand, and she restored several homes in the Historical District. She enjoyed working for Calcasieu Safety Council, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and part time retail.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother James Humphries, her sister Betty Marlene Humphries, and her brothers Billy Edward Humphries and Gerald Lee Humphries.
Survivors include her sister, Barbara Jean Britton and husband Paul Britton of College Station, TX; her daughters, Cheryl Peters of Cleburne, TX; Marcelle Cotton and husband Rick Cotton of Woodlands, TX; her sons, Julian Guillory III and wife Pamela Guillory, and Ivan Guillory and wife Lori Guillory of Lake Charles; her grandchildren, Seth Peters, Benjamin Peters, Holly Peters, Julian Guillory IV, Chase Guillory, Lauren Guillory Matte, and Olivia Guillory; her step-grandchildren, Kelsey Cotton Barnett and Will Cotton, her great grandchildren, Stella Saucedo, Samuel Saucedo, America Saucedo, Rhett Guillory, and Briggs Guillory; her step-great grandchildren, Gracie, Ava and Owen Matte; and her nieces and nephews, Debbie Gehring, Judy Landers, Frances Young, Christine Hulme, Patricia Ramirez, Donna Patchell, Mary Sanchez, Linda Gurka, Ken Duggan, Lee Escobar.
Ruby's Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Chapel, 2171 US-171, Lake Charles, LA. Pastor Jeffrey Ralston will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 2:00 PM.
Our family would like to thank our wonderful team of caregivers at Calcasieu Community Care Center for making Mama's last month's comfortable and for keeping ice cream on hand for her.
